Founded in 2024 by Ekrem Kani, who serves as both the founder and primary composer, Dragonborn represents a deliberate return to music driven by necessity rather than nostalgia. With a musical journey that began in 1994, Ekrem Kani has spent decades creating epic metal compositions, recording albums, EPs, promotional releases, and performing countless live shows with various projects.

Conceived with long-term vision and large-scale ambition, Dragonborn was never planned as a short-term endeavor. From its inception, the project was designed as a fully realized creative universe rather than a collection of standalone songs. The debut album introduces an original mythological world centered on the war between fire dragons and ice dragons, along with the armies bound to their command. This universe forms the foundation of Dragonborn’s musical identity and is also being prepared by Ekrem Kani as a standalone book project, expanding the saga beyond music.

For the debut album recordings, Dragonborn collaborated with respected figures from the international metal scene. Drums were performed by Kevin Talley, orchestral arrangements were composed and recorded by Jonny Maudling, and bass guitar was performed by Emanuele Rastelli. The guitar work was carried by the band’s core creative force, with Ekrem Kani and Cihan Engin on lead guitars, shaping the album’s melodic and harmonic identity.

Dragonborn’s musical approach is built on the balance between melody, technical precision, and narrative flow. The compositions feature layered harmonies, thematic motifs, and dynamic structures. Drums play a central role, using twin-pedal techniques as a melodic extension of technical drumming rather than pure speed. Guitars employ diverse picking techniques, harmonic layering, and unison passages to create both weight and clarity, while bass lines often move in galloping patterns, locking tightly with the drums to reinforce momentum. Each instrument serves the composition as a whole, resulting in a cinematic and immersive sound.

The recordings were produced by Erkan Tatoğlu, founder, guitarist, and vocalist of the band Suicide. All tracking, mixing, and mastering were completed at Midas'ın Kulaklığı Studio, owned and operated by Erkan Tatoğlu. The production focused on clarity, power, and balance between metal instrumentation and orchestral elements, ensuring a cohesive sonic identity throughout the album.
